Page Township Update
January 2023

JANUARY MEETING: The next regular meeting of the Page Township Board of Supervisors will be held on Tuesday, January 17 at 6:00pm. It is delayed 1 day due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. The meeting agenda is posted in the Google Drive.

CANDIDATE FILING: Eligible voters residing in Page Township may file as candidates for Town officer between January 3 and January 17, 2023. Candidates will appear on the March 14, 2023 Township election ballot. Positions to be elected are: Supervisor (A) for a 3-year term; Treasurer for a 2-year term. There is a $2 filing fee for candidates. The Town Hall will be open to accept filings on Tuesday, January 17th from 1pm until 5pm, or during the January Board meeting.

(Our apologies for technical difficulties with our Zoom connection at the September meeting. Our internet connection dropped immediately prior to the meeting. We hope that the situation has been resolved, but it is always more reliable to attend in-person at the Town Hall. )

2023 PROPERTY TAXES: Landowners will soon be receiving preliminary property tax information for next year. The 2023 Page Township tax levy was set by the gathered electors at the 2022 Annual Meeting on March 8 for a total of $142,000, a decrease of 1.4% from 2022. While the effect on individual properties will vary based on market value changes of various classifications of properties as determined by the Mille Lacs County Assessor, the Township will overall be taking in the lowest property taxes since 2020, and $26,000 (15.5%) less than 2012. Property taxes from other units of government, such as Mille Lacs County or the Milaca School District, are not under the control of Page Township.

SEED HARVEST EVENT: Supervisor Jake Janski will be hosting a prairie seed harvest event on Sunday, October 9 at 4:00pm at the Page Town Hall. The event is free and open to all to collect seed to start your own prairie. Bring pruners and paper bag(s). Additional information is on the flyer.

PROPERTY VALUE AND CLASSIFICATION APPEALS: The Page Township Board of Supervisors will meet with the Mille Lacs County Assessor to conduct the Board of Appeal and Equalization on Tuesday, April 26 at 9:00am. This is an opportunity for landowners to appeal the assessed value or classification of their property. Appointments must be made with the Mille Lacs County Assessor at (320) 983-8311.

ROAD REVIEW: Supervisors will be completing the 2022 review of all Township roads and rights-of-way after the Board of Appeal on April 26. Please notify the Clerk if you have particular concerns that should be looked into. The road review determines priorities for maintenance and improvements for the remainder of the year.

MARCH MEETING: The next regular meeting of the Page Township Board of Supervisors will be held on Monday, March 21 at 6:00pm. The meeting agenda is posted in the Google Drive.

ELECTION RESULTS: At the March 8, 2022 Township election, the following vote tallies were confirmed by the Board of Canvass:

• Supervisor (B): Jake Janski – 8 votes (0 write-ins)
• Clerk: Kyle Weimann – 8 votes  (0 write-ins)

2023 PROPERTY TAX LEVY: During the 2022 Annual Meeting, electors voted to set the 2023 property tax levy at a total of $142,000 as recommended by the Supervisors. This is a decrease of $2,000 (1.4%) from 2022 levels. State of the Township and financial information is available from the Annual Meeting page on the website.

GRAVEL AND GRADING: At the March meeting, Supervisors will be accepting quotes for 2022 gravel delivery and road grading services. Quotes must be received by 6:00pm on Monday 3/21. Selected contractors must sign contract, including specifications and other requirements.
